Description:

Kainga is a unique roguelite village-builder where you take control of a Thinker and, with the help of your people, grow a unique town to complete short challenges. It’s up to you to find and choose what technologies will help you accomplish your goals while discovering the world and adapting to the pressures of the environment, massive beasts and other tribes. Fight fires, winds and rains, tame the wildlife, build on them, raid or befriend your neighbors, build bridges, boats, balloons, the world is open to your choices!

Your Thinker is the leader of your village, and vital to its success. The Thinker must brave the dangers of the world to discover sources of inspiration that will grant you access to new technologies to improve and grow your town. If your Thinker or all your followers fall, the game is over, but that is not the end! Between games Thinkers hang out in the Skyloft, chat about their previous games, unlock new technologies, and choose a new quest and map to play the next round on.

Kainga does away with cumbersome management meters and charts, there is no forced technology tree, stockpiles, hunger or happiness. Kainga is content to live in the present and is a game that defies expectations and showers the player with discoveries and unique experiences that keep you coming back for more!

History:

Hi, my name is Erik Rempen, and I’m a self-taught solo developer behind Kainga: Seeds of Civilization. I’m a world traveller, having been to over 70 countries, lived in 8, learned 3 languages and studied a dozen others, and I’ve always been fascinated by how ancient cultures developed independently and adapted to their environments.

I started making Kainga because I was annoyed with the direction most city builder games were going. I wanted to make a game that let's you:

1. Create a unique and purposeful culture with every play through.
2. Learn to adapt to the environment around you instead of clearcutting it.
3. Play in bite-sized sessions instead of long-winded grinds.

So I did!

It took 2 years to learn how to program and another 2 years to make the game. I’m very proud of the accomplishment and its success for a first game, and I plan to keep making weird games that bring joy and surprise to players around the world.
